About the Author
Ray Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1920. After graduating from high school in Los Angeles in 1938, he continued to study as a self-taught person, working in the library evenings and in front of his typewriter during the day. He was a street corner newspaper vendor from 1938 to 1942, humble beginnings for a man whose name came to symbolize the best of science fiction. Ray Bradbury published his first short story in 1941 and immediately gained a solid reputation in trade magazines. Several of his texts have been featured in collections selecting the best American short stories of the year in 1946, 1948 and 1952. He has received numerous awards including the O'Henry Memorial Award, the Benjamin Franklin Award in 1954, and the 'Aviation-Space Writer' s Association Award for best journal article devoted to space in 1967. Ray Bradbury has written for television, radio, film, theater, and published in the most prestigious American magazines.
