Product Description
An emblematic figure of the resistance against the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, Michel Aoun has established himself over the years as the essential figure of the Lebanese political landscape. This "fiery" soldier, brought up in the hard school of the army during the war in Lebanon, entered politics in 1988 when Amine Gemayel, President of the Republic, appointed him Prime Minister. Michel Aoun will not cease, during his two years of mandate, to re-establish the authority of the State and to liberate the territory of the Syrian occupant - in vain.
On October 13, 1990, a Syro-Lebanese offensive on what is known as the "Christian retreat" sounded the death knell for these two years of hope. The general is forced to exile. He spent fifteen years in France before returning home in May 2005. The Syrians have left and he feels this departure as a personal victory by displaying the ambition to unite. in Lebanon than in the Western ranks. Michel Aoun proposes, through this "daring" and "avant-garde" agreement, a "social project" which transcends traditional social and community divisions in order to provide, at the time of the "clash of civilizations", a response to identity crises and to the question of "how to live in peace in a pluralist society?
